Marcia Jean

Over the years, piece by piece, my mother has told me the stories of her upbringing. The stories of Lindley; the town she's from, the many places she lived while growing up, and her strained relationships with our family members. At a young age, my mother was separated from her biological mother and half brother. She was then forced to reside with her father and step-mother.

I visited Lindley and the places that my mother had told me stories about. I wanted to document her past in a way that captured the people and places that hold memories pertinent to her. This project allowed me to have a better understanding of my mother’s upbringing and create my own personal connections with my family. This year has taught me to never take relationships for granted.
